 Blah blah blog!

Throughout our common core standards, we see a consistent theme where students are being asked to write for different purposes and audiences. In addition, students are being asked to be able to produce text using appropriate digital tools and formats. Blogs create the perfect opportunity for students to create text for authentic audiences across the world. Students are thrilled to see how powerful their words can be when they find that their readers stretch across the world.

 That's Chrome-Tastic!

Session resources:
The Chrome web browser is becoming a popular tool in the classroom from surfing the web to chromebooks.  What makes this such a cool product is the additional "apps" and extensions that can be installed for free!  We will explore some useful apps and extensions and have time to play.  So when we return back to our classroom, we will have more tools in our toolbox.  It's alot like Baskin Robbins, we may not like all 31 flavors, but we will taste them all and find our favorites!

Are you looking for that ONE strategy that will get your students reading, writing, and talking about books? Book trailers promote creation and collaboration and meet the technology and literacy demands of the Common Core. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn about book trailers, how to use and create them with your students, and you will create your own! Bring any and all digital devices! We will explore a variety of digital tools to use with whatever mobile devices you have in your classroom.

How do book trailers meet the Common Core Standards? Here are the K-12 anchor standards that will be addressed in this session:

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.2 Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.7 Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words.1

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.\

RSA Videos: All You Need is a Smart Phone and Whiteboard Session resources: http://goo.gl/vdm6sM This session prepares you to create whiteboard animated presentations with your students. These animations address the Common Core strands that center around developing arguments to support claims and using multimedia to aid in audience comprehension! RSA videos display information flexibly and dynamically while providing students with an authentic audience. You can do it all with a whiteboard, marker, iPhone or iPad and free downloadable app. After this session, you will have a mentor text of your own, handouts for your students, and the courage to learn along with your students.
